EMPLOYMENT HISTORY Jan 1998 + Consultel Australia Pty Ltd Senior Consultant Most recently I have been in Papua New Guinea researching the communications and IT requirements for the agricultural research being funded by Ausaid in a number of centres stretching from Rabaul to Port Moresby to Lae to Tambul. My task was to correctly ascertain the requirements at each location, and then design the appropriate information technology and communications solution for the research programme as a whole. During a large portion of 1998 (March to December) I was the Senior Technical Advisor to the CS Energy year 2000 project. CS Energy produce over 60% of Queensland's power at eight power stations. It was my assignment to risk analyse the control systems, design, implement and report on year 2000 tests and provide remediation actions and contingency plans. Upon my return from Malaysia I designed and installed Consultel's own voice and data networks for their Brisbane office. This involved internet firewalls, ISDN links, Cat 5 UTP cabling and a Panasonic digital PABX. Similtaneously I researched secure radio transmission of LAN data.
Aug 1997-Jan 1998 Malaysian Securities Commission Senior Communications Consultant to Malaysian Securities Commission As Senior Communications Consultant I was responsible for the design, specifications, tender document production, evaluation of responses, production of recommendations and final reports to the Malaysian Securities Commission, including communications cabling, public communications carriers, voice networking, radio communications, satellite, microwave and fibre optic requirements for their new intelligent building at Bukit Kiara near Kuala Lumpur.
Nov 1996-Aug 1997 Davy Kinhill Flour Daniel - Lihir Project Systems/Communications Supervisor Utilising microsoft project, I was responsible for total project management of the computing/communications part of the development of Lihir Island. A monthly report showing milestones achieved and challenges faced (both natural and man made) was submitted to the overall project construction managers meeting. A copy of this report was included in the client's monthly communications reports. MAJOR PROJECTS MICROWAVE A new 8Mbps microwave between the mine site at Putput and the Telecommunications Earth Station at Londolovit. This project was managed by myself and included all facets of design, construction (including towers and footings), installation and commissioning This included leading a team of 3 expatriate and 6 national technicians as well as liasing with Mitech in Brisbane. This link carries voice, data, trunk radio, and modem/fax traffic. It has run reliably since commissioning.
TRUNK RADIO I project managed the location, construction and commissioning of an additional trunk radio repeater. In addition to leading my team, this involved controlling the contractor 'Aerial Communications' as well as some "hands on" work both in the "shack" and on the tower itself. The trunk radio system covers the mine site, administration area, accommodation areas, and the hotel and airport precincts. The system currently supports slightly over 350 users on a daily basis and runs at peaks of 80%+ utilisation. FIBRE OPTIC NETWORK Designing the fibre optic data network switching system which has been installed on the mine site was also part of my brief. This project included the sourcing and choice of the appropriate hardware and software, liasing with the supplier (Datacraft), supervising the installation of this equipment, integration into the existing network structure and addressing the ongoing service and maintenance issues. WIDE AREA NETWORK A wide area network (WAN) existed between the mine site, administration site, Brisbane, Lae, Port Moresby and Kavieng. This was expanded to include the accommodation camps, training centre, warehouses, plant workshops, and commissioning areas on site as well as additional sites in Brisbane. My involvement in this part of the overall project has covered managing telephone advice and support, router and modem programming, managing of the installation of all components, to training the team in installation of workstations and repairing lines. BUILDING CABLING A number of buildings have been internally cabled for communications using IBM Type 3 Category 5 cabling, both Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) and Shielded Twisted Pair (STP). My involvement has included concepts, overseeing the drawing up the building layouts, supervising the installation by R.M. Lee, and commissioning of the system. This cable is used for voice, fax and data communications, monitoring equipment (for hospital and control systems) and cable TV/video (hospital and school buildings). VOICE COMMUNICATION The voice communications are controlled on the DKFD site by two Ericsson MD110 PABX's. Apart from liason with Senior Client Management and supervising the drafting the time scale and requirements, I was directly involved in upgrading these with additional cards and latest revision software. An upgrade to the call accounting software from CADS 1 to CADS 2 was included in this project to allow for the expansion in requirements. SUPPLIER LIAISON Communication to and from the island is via satellite with coverage provided by both New Guinea's Telikom (PTC) and Optus B1 systems. A 64Kbps link exists between Lihir and Brisbane (via Port Moresby and Sydney) utilising Time Division Multiplexers (TDM's) for data transfer, Email and providing a tie-line to Brisbane office. To keep these systems operating effectively I have had to liaise successfully with both carriers (Telikom PNG) and equipment suppliers (Datacraft). DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS Day to day problem solving / running / customer interface, for computers, printers, logins, phones, faxes, radios, television, intra-country and overseas communications is also one of my responsibilities. This requires daily use of a variety of skills including managing customer expectations, team leading, supplier liason, contractor control, hardware and software skills, problem solving, and technical expertise. CRISIS MANAGEMENT IN REMOTE AREAS During my time on site we have repaired, rebuilt, and replaced a large amount of equipment damaged in two large concurrent lightning strikes. This incident tested resources to the limit, however by midnight after the event, phones in the administration area were working, and we had radio links throughout all sites. The full restoration of voice and data services took approximately a fortnight while parts where obtained by airfreight. The main restriction being thetime required by customs for clearance of the equipment.
Jun 1996-Nov 1996 Metway Bank Communications Analyst (Integration) As part of the Integration Analysis I was responsible for supervising the programming of PABX's within Metway, overseeing the rectification of voice network faults and liaising with Telecom to bring their Electronic Billing System (EBS) to specification useable by the bank. I was also responsible for managing the implementation of TQM into the communications sphere of operations whilst also being incumbent of the position of data analyst. This required that I monitor network performance regularly to ensure that availability and response times were within agreed service levels. Analyse bandwidth requirements and service provisioning to sites throughout Australia, and investigate current and emerging communications technology and products. Jul 1995 - Jun 1996 Metway Bank Information Systems Security Analyst In this role it was perceived that my team was the front line of defence against computer viral attacks, outside hackers, and internal unauthorised access for the bank. I was also responsible for managing the disaster recovery plan for the whole organisation, project managing the successful connection of Metway to the internet, and leading the team which installed the first UNIX based system within Metway's "Blue" IS centre. Jan 91- Jul 95 Metway Bank Communications Analyst) PROJECTS MANAGED ? Installation of 'Trade Centre' dealing system ? Communications for installation of a second computer site. The sites to be linked for backup purposes in an emergency. ? Monitoring and control of Metway's Telecom and Optus phone bills. ? Link Prudential Finances applications and Metway Bank's applications for select users. ? Link Prudential Finance and Metway Bank's PABX's in the most cost effective method possible. ? Automated Data Network performance monitoring system with alarms and alerts for response times and performance monitoring. ? Provide a "hot line" between Brisbane and Sydney Treasury Dealing Rooms which is permanently active and can be accessed by voice operated crossover (VOX). ? Implement an efficient paging service for use by Metway throughout the Eastern Seaboard of Australia. ? Installation of appropriate communications to Metway outlets, regional offices, mobile staff, and loans services as required. Nov, Dec 1990 Metway Bank Acting Network Manager As acting network Manager I had to manage a work group of twelve people sub divided into four distinct teams. The position also required that I submit detailed monthly reports at board level on all aspects of the data and voice networks throughout the bank. Jul 1988 - Nov 1990 Metway Bank Network Co-ordinator for Special Services During my incumbence as NCSS for Metway I was responsible for the security, service provisioning and multiplexing (MUXing) of aggregate communications services throughout the bank as well as to other financial institutions. I was also responsible for the telecom data bills and was the bank's Wang Systems Controller. Oct 1985 - Jul 1988 Metropolitan Permanent Building Society Network Controller The network controller position required my monitoring of the Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) and branch network, provide telephone support as required, assemble various types of data cabling as necessary. In addition 24 hour support (on call) was expected for the ATM network.

Aloha,
I have recently returned to Hawaii to live after being on the US mainland for 25+ years. I am working to develop relationships with organizations which fit my interests, experience and expertise. The primary areas of my work have focused on: Leadership Skills,Teambuilding, Diversity Training, Culture Change, and a wide variety of programs designed to facilitate specific skills learning and/or business issues. Much of this work has been accomplished with the use of experiential methodologies.
There are several possible avenues for working together: My company Hawaiian Interactions could subcontract or partner with you to provide specific services and experiences to your clients, or I could be hired as an independent contractor as a consultant, trainer or event coordinator. I have included a brief description of Hawaiian Interactions to give you an idea of the work we do. I look forward to exploring possibilities with you.
Mahalo for your time and consideration,

Hawaiian Interactions
Hawaiian Interactions is an organization which works with Leaders and Teams that have a desire to improve working relationships as a way to focus on business goals.
Hawaiian Interactions is a newly formed company combining a depth of skills and experience developed over the past 15 years. We have worked on 4 continents, with a wide variety of businesses including: Banks, Airlines, Hospitals, Manufacturing, Mining and Service- oriented companies. Many of these have been Fortune 500 companies. Others have included government and nonprofit organizations. The primary areas of work have focused on: Teambuilding, Leadership Skills, Diversity Training, Culture Change, and a wide variety of programs designed to facilitate specific skills learning and/or business issues.
Hawaiian Interactions designs programs to meet the unique needs of each client. We use an experiential approach in our programs which usually consists of a mixture of brief focusing lectures to present models, concepts and pertinent information intermixed with activities that focus on relevant issues. The activities usually follow a general format of discussion, followed by problem solving activity(ies) highlighting general or specific issues, reflection, and more discussion focusing on learnings. The activities (depending on the venue) ideally take place outdoors. Hawai’i obviously provides an ideal location for this type of program.
We are able to provide a wide variety of designs for groups from complete meetings with specific deliverable objectives, to designing blocks of activities which serve to complement planned meeting agendas. Ideally, we like to work with a group for at least a day or 2-3 half day segments, though we are willing to design to meet other needs. What we offer is designs and activities that focus on potential learnings that will be of use to the company. Our approach allows for the achievement of real usable learning within a fun and exciting context. Each program is custom designed providing maximum benefit for each client. We’ve had great success with past programs, and are excited about offering this approach in the islands.
We look forward to speaking with you in greater detail about how Hawaiian Interactions can help you provide useful learning experiences for your clients.
While the above was written with a Hawaiian location in mind the skills and methods work anywhere. We have (as noted above) provided services in many locations around the world and look forwrd to working with people in and around the Pacific reigon.
