2. Assistance Scheme/Program :

The programs of the Commonwealth Secretariat involve the provision of technical assistance to the governments of Commonwealth Countries especially Commonwealth Developing Countries and the provision of consultancy services relating to the promotion and development of Trade, Industry and Agriculture. This assistance can go direct to private sector organisations at the request of the host government.

The mechanism used is the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation (CFTC). Services provided through the CFTC consist of technical advice, expertise and training. The CFTC comprises four divisions which carry out most activities:

The Management and Training Services Division provides consultancy and training including arranging specific in-country and overseas training programs.

General Technical Assistance Services Division provides short and long term experts in all fields of development.

The Export and Industrial Development Division advises on all aspects of export marketing, industrial, small business and entrepreneurial development.

The Economic and Legal Advisory Services Division is an in-house consultancy which provides advice to governments on a number of issues.

3. Criteria :

Applicant countries must be members of the Commonwealth. Areas of specific interest are marine Transport, Mining and Agribusiness.
