PRIVATE SECTOR ASSISTANCE

Forum Secretariat

2. Assistance Scheme/Program :

Private sector development activities are implemented by the Secretariat’s Trade and Investment Division in Suva and the South Pacific Trade Commission (SPTC) in Sydney and Auckland.

The services of the Trade and Investment Division are similar to those of the SPTC’s. There are four main activities relevant to the private sector:

  • information compilation and dissemination;

  • development o private sector economy;

  • integration in the global economy;

  • human resource development.

Specific funds administered include:

  • Marketing Support Fund (MSF) - this provides grants up to a maximum of FIJ$8000 to assist:

market research into new markets

exploration visits to new markets

exhibition participation; and

promotion/advertising in new markets

Industrial Development Training Project (IDTP) - funded by the United Nations Development Program, this provides financial assistance to manufacturing and processing industries in Forum Countries to help them develop industrial skills and improve manufacturing efficiency.

3. Criteria :

Manufacturers in any of the Forum countries who are considering export or expanding into new markets can apply.
